Robot vacuum cleaners are often equipped with sensors, cameras, lasers, and other systems that help them to navigate your house. The LIDAR navigation and obstacle avoidance systems reliably detect large obstacles, such as walls, furniture, and chair legs to help the robot vacuum find its way around them. However, they often miss the smaller objects that get in the way. Robot vacuum cleaners with object recognition can detect small obstacles that the LIDAR navigation system, and obstacle avoidance feature, won’t notice. It is especially handy when your pets leave an unexpected surprise on the floor, while the robot vacuum is running. Using the built-in camera, and an artificial intelligence system, the object recognition function can recognize a list of objects such as cables, socks, shoes, pet waste, and other items that are included in the AI database. It can calculate the size, and distance, of the object so that it can avoid them without contact. With the object recognition system, even if you forgot to check whether there are small objects lying on the floor, the robot vacuum won’t run over them or drag them around as it cleans.
My recommendation: I have both robot vacuum cleaners with object recognition and without this function. Personally, it is not a very necessary function for me and is not a must-have for my next choice of robot vacuum cleaner.
In our comparison, the cheapest robot vacuum cleaner with object recognition is the Dreametech L10 Pro at $279.99.

The distribution in the price for robot vacuum cleaners with object recognition, compared to models without it, is shown in the graph below:
Obstacle avoidance prevents a robot vacuum from constantly getting stuck. These vacuums are equipped with various sensors that can immediately detect, and avoid, large obstacles such as walls, furniture, and chair legs. Aside from helping the robot vacuum navigate your house more efficiently, obstacle avoidance will also ensure its safety by making sure it doesn’t bump into obstacles and break.
Object avoidance is not the same as object recognition: object recognition allows the robot vacuum cleaner to recognize different objects (and in many cases take pictures of them), while object avoidance simply allows it to avoid them.
Keep in mind that all robot vacuum cleaners with object recognition also have object avoidance, but not all that have object avoidance are guaranteed to have object recognition.
