A remote control is a fairly rare feature among modern robot vacuum cleaners. Only 24% of the robot vacuum cleaners in our comparison come with a physical remote control. Meanwhile, 86% of all robot vacuum cleaners offer app control. However, some models have both a remote control and an app.

A physical remote control has limited options, whereas app control typically gives you a far wider range of functionality. Furthermore, app control works no matter how far you are from the robot, but a remote control will require you to be near the device.

Advantages of a robot vacuum cleaner with a remote control

  • Convenience: Remote controls allow you to start and stop the robot vacuum from anywhere within range.
  • Customization: Some remote controls for robot vacuums allow you to customize the cleaning schedule and control the direction of the robot.
  • Improved control: A remote control lets you easily steer the robot vacuum toward areas that need extra attention and away from areas you don’t want it to go.
  • Connectivity: Unlike voice and app control, you don’t need an internet connection to operate your robot vacuum cleaner with a remote control.
