Verdict

Recommended

The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is a very advanced and powerful robot vacuum cleaner that is suitable for large households with multiple rooms, and different floor types. Its suction power, navigation, and cleaning results are highly rated, and the auto-emptying station makes it a good choice for people with allergies. However, it is an expensive option and may not be suitable for those who want a simple and affordable robot vacuum cleaner.

We have tested the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, and the robot vacuum cleaner itself is the Roborock S7 MaxV, but with the “Ultra” model, you also get an advanced base unit that takes the automation of your cleaning to the next level.

The Roborock S7 MaxV is available in three versions:

  • Roborock S7 MaxV: With this version you get the robot vacuum cleaner without a dirt disposal unit, and just with a regular charging base.
  • Roborock S7 MaxV Plus: This version of the robot comes with an automatic dirt disposal unit for emptying the dust container.
  • Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra: This version of the robot comes with an advanced base station, which can both clean- and dry the mop, empty the dust container, fill up the robots water tank with clean water, and more.

In our in-depth review of the Roborock S7 MaxV, you can read more about the following for this robot vacuum cleaner (be aware that the Roborock S7 MaxV version and the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra version come with the exact same robot vacuum cleaner, only the base stations differ):

  • Navigation
  • App
  • Battery
  • Cleaning
  • Mopping
  • Setup
  • Shape
  • Maintenance

We have tested the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra in accordance with our review methodology 1.1 for robot vacuum cleaners.

Who is the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra suited to?

  • If you want one of the most advanced robot vacuum cleaners on the market, which takes the automation of cleaning to the next level, the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra might be a great choice for you due to its advanced base station. The robot increases the level of automation, compared to many competing products due to its automatic self-emptying dustbin, automatic self-cleaning mop, and automatic refilling water tank.
  • This robot vacuum cleaner is well-suited to large households, due to its powerful battery and intelligent navigation system. It can easily map the whole floor and ensure the cleaning of all rooms.
  • The robot has one of the most advanced object recognition systems among robot vacuum cleaners. The robot detects carpets and objects very well, which makes it suitable in households where the floor is not always fully cleaned up, or households where there are animals.
  • The auto-emptying station keeps the dust sealed in, which makes the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra suitable for households with allergy sufferers.

Who is the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra not suited to?

  • If you just want a simple robot vacuum cleaner the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is not the right choice for you. The robot is relatively advanced, due to its many features and its all-in-one base station.
  • If you are on a tight budget, this is definitely not the right robot vacuum cleaner for you, due to its high price. Instead, you might want a cheaper model, for example, the Roborock E5 or the Laresar L6 Nex.

Base station

The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra comes with a very advanced base station, which enables it to:

  • Automatically clean the mop
  • Automatically fill up the water tank
  • Automatically empty the dust container

The base station has three tanks:

  • A dustbin tank (with a bag inside) that the dust is emptied into.
  • A fresh water container, which is used to fill up the water tank and to clean the mop.
  • A dirty water container, for the water used to clean the mop.

Each of these tanks must be filled or emptied regularly (every 30-60 days depending on how often the robot is used).

Automatic mop cleaning

When the robot is in the base station you can select to clean the mop in the app. It cleans the mop with clean water from the base station.

Before the robot starts a cleaning session it automatically cleans the mop (if it is attached), which takes some minutes but is not noisy or disturbing. The water used for cleaning the mop is distributed into the base station's tank for dirty water. In the app you can set how often the mop should be cleaned (e.g. after every 20 minutes of cleaning).

Automatic water tank refill

The clean water tank

With the water from the base station, you can also refill the robot's water tank. This is done automatically after each cleaning session, and in our test, this worked perfectly.

Automatic dirt disposal

When the robot is in the base station, you can pick “Empty” in the app to empty the robot's dust container. The dirt is moved from the dust container in the robot into a dust bag in the base station. This is noisy (measured to 74.9 dB in our test of noise emission), but only lasts 15-30 seconds.

The dust bag has a capacity of 2.5 liters and you must continuously buy new ones. The dust bag needs to be replaced around every 60 days, but this depends heavily on your household size and how much you use the robot.

The dust bag is sealed well, so you minimize your exposure to the dust. This makes this robot vacuum cleaner well-suited to households with allergy sufferers.

For some people the automatic dirt disposal is a great feature, because it means that the robot vacuum cleaner requires less maintenance in everyday life. However, for some people, it isn't worth it when you have to continuously buy new dust bags. If you are in the latter category, you might want a robot vacuum cleaner without a dirt disposal unit. If this is the case you might want to take a look at the Roborock S8, Roborock S7, Roborock S7 MaxV or the Dreame L10s Pro.

Our experience with the automatic dirt disposal feature is that it works very well and is a very practical feature for many. However, it doesn’t notify you when the bag is filled up, which would be a small improvement.

App

Base station settings in the Roborock app
Base station settings in the Roborock app (Image: Reoverview)

We have described the functions of the app in our review of the Roborock S7 MaxV. This section will focus on the app, with regard to the base station.

In the app, you can customize the settings for the base station. You can customize:

  • How intensely the mop should be washed.
  • How often the mop should be washed (if you pick 20 minutes, it will return to the base station every 20 minutes, clean the mop and then return with the cleaning).
  • If it should auto empty the dustbin and how it should be done.
  • If it should dry the mopping cloth.

Dimensions

The Roborock S7 MaxV robot measures 13.77 inches in width and depth and 3.8 inches in height.

We measured the base station to be 16.53 inches in height, 16.14 inches in width, and 19.49 inches in depth. This is quite a large size to fit into the house and is something you should consider before buying. You must have access to the base station because you will have to empty the dirty water tank, fill up the water tank, and change the dust bag from time to time.

You should also be aware that you should not place anything above the station as you need space above to be able to maintain it.

Noise emission

Our test of Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra’s noise emission
Our test of Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra’s noise emission (Image: Reoverview)

Noise emission is an important factor to consider, especially if you intend to use the robot vacuum cleaner when there are people at home or if you have or if you have animals that will be around the robot vacuum cleaner.

Due to the manufacturer, the robot has a noise emission of 68 dB in “Balanced mode”.

We have tested the noise emission in various settings and tested the noise emission when the dust container is emptied into the base station. We measured the robot as follows:

  • Maximum noise emission measured in “Quiet mode”: 61.1 dB
  • Maximum noise emission measured in “Balanced mode”: 63.1 dB
  • Maximum noise emission measured in “Max mode”: 73.5 dB
  • Maximum noise emission measured while emptying dustbin container: 74.9 dB

The noise emission is quite low for the Roborock S7 MaxV, except when it is in “Max mode” and when it empties its dustbin, where the noise emission increases quite a lot.

Maintenance

The scheduled maintenance is shown in the Roborock app
The scheduled maintenance is shown in the Roborock app (Image: Reoverview)

Regarding the base station, you will regularly need to maintain a number of things:

  • Change the dust bag (and buy new ones)
  • Refill the clean water tank
  • Empty the dirty water tank
  • Rise out the water filter (once per month)
  • Clean brush for mop cleaning (every 2 months)

You will be notified about all the maintenance in the app (except for the dust bag change).
