Who should buy iRobot Roomba s9

  • If you live in a house with multiple floor levels, the iRobot Roomba S9 might be suitable for you because it can save up to 10 maps so you can use it on many different floor levels.
  • If you are looking for a robot vacuum that can efficiently clean the corners of your room, you must look for robot vacuums that have a D shape, like the iRobot Roomba S9, as it is designed to effectively clean edges.
  • If you live in a large house, you should look for a robot vacuum with an accurate mapping system like the iRobot Roomba S9 which can thoroughly clean every area of your room.
  • If you have heavy shedding pets or live with someone who has long hair, you no longer need to worry about removing hair tangles in the brush roll because the brush of the iRobot Roomba S9 is made up of rubber which prevents hair tangles.

Who should NOT buy iRobot Roomba s9

  • If you have dust allergies, it might be better to get the iRobot iRobot Roomba s9+ that comes with an auto-empty bin so that you won’t be exposed to dust when manually emptying the bin.
  • If you are on a tight budget, it is more practical to look for other cheaper robot vacuums, such as the Roborock S6 Pure and the Ecovacs Deebot N8 PRO that can still deliver efficient cleaning.
  • The iRobot Roomba S9 doesn’t have the most impressive battery life even if it has a very expensive price because it can only run for a maximum of 120 minutes. If you want the robot vacuum to finish its cleaning cycle without returning to its charging base to recharge, there are other cheaper robot vacuums that have a longer battery life such as the Roborock S4 Max that has a battery life of 180 minutes and the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950 that has a 200-minute maximum runtime.

This is our verdict of the iRobot Roomba s9 based on several hours of research of reviews from both experts and users.

The iRobot Roomba S9 is one of the most expensive robot vacuums because of its efficiency in cleaning, especially corners. It doesn’t come with an auto-empty bin but it is equipped with a lot of advanced and unique features.

The first thing that you will notice in the iRobot Roomba S9 is its unique D shape because most robot vacuums have a circular shape. Robot vacuums with a circular shape often have a hard time cleaning corners but the shape of the iRobot Roomba S9 is designed to be better in cleaning corners and edges. Since the iRobot Roomba S9 has a D shape, it can align itself with the edges of your room to reach specks of dirt that are stuck in the edges.

Another advantage of this shape is that it has a longer brush roll than the brush rolls of circular robot vacuums. Since it has a wider suction opening, it can collect more dirt in every pass.

The two brush rolls underneath the iRobot Roomba S9 facilitate deeper and better cleaning than robot vacuums that utilize only one brush roll underneath. Moreover, the brush rolls are made of rubber which prevents hair tangles better than brush rolls that are made up of bristles. You no longer need to cut hair that is stuck in the brush roll. The iRobot Roomba s9 is not entirely prone to hair tangles and you can still see hair that is stuck in the axle of the brush roll but it is easier to remove since it is in the ends of the brush and you don’t need to use scissors.

The iRobot Roomba S9 can thoroughly clean your house as it can get to every area of your room because it is equipped with a camera-based navigation system called vSLAM. It can navigate better and won’t get stuck because of its efficient obstacle detection. However, the downside of having camera-based navigation is that it doesn’t work well when there is no adequate lighting. It might be a bad idea if you let the robot vacuum clean during the night with the lights off.

You can control the iRobot Roomba S9 through the app which gives you a wide array of options and features. You can see the created map in the app and can create virtual boundaries to block off areas that you don’t want the robot vacuum to go. You can also create cleaning zones where the robot vacuum will clean a specific area only. You can name each room and divide it as you see fit. It can save up to 10 maps which is suitable for those who live in a house with many floor levels. However, one thing that the map of the iRobot Roomba s9 lacks is real-time mapping. You can’t see the current location of the robot vacuum while it is cleaning so you can’t monitor it live.

Aside from the app, you can also control the iRobot Roomba s9 through voice integrations, such as Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa for hands-free control.

The DirtDetect feature can identify areas with a lot of dirt. It focuses on dirtier areas by going back and forth to thoroughly and deeply clean the area. Within the app, you can select whether the robot vacuum should make one pass or two passes in the room. It also has an automatic feature where the vacuum decides whether the room needs one or two passes based on the dirt that is detected.

Overall, if money is not a problem for you, the iRobot Roomba S9 is an excellent option. It has a unique shape that can get all the dirt even on the corners of the room and is equipped with a lot of features that increase convenience and ease of use.
