Who should buy iRobot Roomba s9+

  • If you have dust allergies, the self-emptying dust bin of the iRobot Roomba s9+ is a great help because you no longer need to empty the dust bin, which also means you won’t be exposed to dust.
  • If you live in a house with a lot of floor levels, the iRobot Roomba s9+ might be suitable for you, because it can save up to 10 maps.
  • If you have heavy shedding pets, or live with someone who has long hair, you no longer need to worry about removing hair tangles in the brush roll, because the iRobot Roomba s9+’s dual brush roller is not prone to hair tangles.
  • If you are looking for a robot vacuum that can efficiently clean the corners and edges of your room, the iRobot Roomba s9+ might be the one you are looking for.
  • If you have a lot of furniture in your home, you can expect the iRobot Roomba s9+ to still thoroughly clean your home, because of its advanced navigation system.

Who should NOT buy iRobot Roomba s9+

  • If you are on a tight budget, the iRobot Roomba s9+ might not be the best idea to buy, because it is one of the most expensive robot vacuums.
  • If you want to monitor the real-time mapping of the iRobot Roomba s9+ (so that you know its current location), you might want to check out the Roborock S5 Max, and the Roborock S6 MaxV, with a real-time mapping feature.

This is our verdict of the iRobot Roomba s9+ based on several hours of research of reviews from both experts and users.
Updated 16-10-2021

The iRobot Roomba s9+ was manufactured by a big brand, and provides a lot of advanced features so you can also expect an expensive price tag. It has the ability to empty its own dust bin, map accurately, and efficiently clean edges.

The shape of the iRobot Roomba s9+ is one of its unique features. Unlike most robot vacuums that have a circular shape, the iRobot Roomba s9+ has a D-shape just like in the Neato Botvac D7 Connected, and other Neato Botvac D series vacuums. This allows the iRobot Roomba s9+ to get deeper into corners, and align itself against the walls of your home. It can efficiently clean edges and corners that circular robot vacuums have difficulties cleaning. Another advantage of this shape is that it has a 9.5 inch long brush roller, which is longer than brush rollers of circular robot vacuums. This means that it can pick up more debris in every pass. However, the brush roll of the Neato Botvac D7 Connected, is longer as it is about 11 inches long.

The iRobot Roomba s9+ has two brush rolls underneath that facilitate deeper, and better, cleaning. Moreover, it is made of rubber, and is not prone to hair tangles, so you no longer need to cut hairs that are stuck in the bristles of the brush roller. The iRobot Roomba s9+ is not entirely exempt from hair tangles, and you can still see hairs that are stuck in the axle of the brush roller, but it is easier to remove and you don't need to use scissors.

The self-emptying station, also called the Clean Base, automatically empties the dust bin of the iRobot Roomba s9+. You can replace the bag that is in the Clean Base after the dust bin has been emptied about 30 times. This is great for those who don’t have enough time to frequently empty the dust bin, and those who have allergies because it limits their exposure to dirt.

The iRobot Roomba s9+ is equipped with an advanced navigation system, which is the vSLAM. It is a camera-based navigation system so it can accurately map your home, and know which areas it has and hasn't cleaned yet. However, the drawback of a camera-based navigation system is that it needs adequate light when mapping. This means, it might be a bad idea if you let the robot vacuum clean during the night with the lights off, because its camera navigation system won’t work well.

The designated app of the iRobot Roomba s9+ provides several options that enable you to manipulate the robot vacuum, according to your liking. Within the app, you can see the created map, and set virtual boundaries and cleaning zones. You can also name each room, and divide it as you see fit. It can save up to 10 maps, so it is suitable for those who live in a house with many floor levels. Aside from the app, you can also control the iRobot Roomba s9+ through voice integrations, such as Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

The iRobot Roomba s9+ has a dirt detect feature, so it can identify areas with a lot of dirt. It focuses on dirtier areas, so it goes back and forth to thoroughly clean those areas. Within the app, you can select whether the robot vacuum should make one pass, or two passes, in the room. It also has an automatic feature where the vacuum decides whether the room needs one, or two, passes.

A minor inconvenience of the iRobot Roomba s9+ is that it doesn’t show real-time mapping. You can’t see the current location of the robot vacuum, so you can’t monitor it live. Moreover, it has recurring expenses since you have to buy dust bags for the Clean Base.

Overall, if money is not a problem for you, the iRobot Roomba s9+ is a great buy. It has a very expensive price tag, but it provides great convenience as it can efficiently clean the corners of your room, can empty its own dust bin, has a strong suction power, and has an easy-to-use app.
