Who should buy iRobot Roomba j7+

  • If you have a busy schedule, the iRobot Roomba j7+ is an excellent option because it has a self-emptying dust bin, and efficient obstacle avoidance, which eliminates the need to constantly monitor the robot vacuum. Moreover, you can go for weeks without thinking about cleaning because you can set a cleaning schedule in the app.
  • If you have pets in your house, the obstacle avoidance feature of the iRobot Roomba j7+ is great because it is programmed to avoid obstacles, such as pet waste.
  • If you have dust allergies, the auto-empty base of the iRobot Roomba j7+ is a lifesaver because it automatically empties the dust bin, so it doesn’t expose you to dust.
  • If you have long hair or furry pets, you won’t have to worry about cutting hair tangles that are stuck in the brush of the robot vacuum, because the brush of the iRobot Roomba j7+ is made up of rubber which prevents hair tangles.

Who should NOT buy iRobot Roomba j7+

  • If you are on a tight budget, the iRobot Roomba j7+ might not be practical to buy because of its expensive price. Instead, you might want to look for other robot vacuums with a lower price, such as the Roborock S6 Pure, or the ‎Laresar L6 Pro, that also have some advanced features.
  • If you live in a large house, and you want the robot vacuum to clean your entire house on a single charge, the iRobot Roomba j7+ might disappoint you because it only has a maximum runtime of 75 minutes. The Roborock S6 MaxV has a longer battery life of up to 180 minutes, and the Ultenic T10 has a maximum runtime of 280 minutes.

Updated 04-11-2021

The iRobot Roomba j7+ features a self-emptying dust bin, and smart obstacle avoidance, which makes its price expensive. It is equipped with a lot of advanced and smart features making the robot vacuum fully automated.

The docking station of the iRobot Roomba j7+ has 2 functions; the auto-empty base, and a charging station. The auto-empty base can hold 60 days’ worth of dirt, but this depends on how frequently you let the robot vacuum clean, and how dirty your home is. The auto-empty base has a sleeker and shorter look compared to the auto-empty base of the iRobot Roomba i7+, and the iRobot Roomba i3+. It may have a lower height, but it still has the same capacity as robot vacuums with a taller auto-empty base because the auto-empty base of the iRobot Roomba j7+ is wider.

The robot vacuum also has a lower height than the Roborock S6 Pure and the Roborock S6 MaxV, because it doesn’t have a LiDAR turret on top of it. The turret on other robot vacuums might cause them to get stuck on some objects, and might prevent them from reaching under low-lying furniture. Thankfully, the camera of the iRobot Roomba j7+ is situated at the front and doesn't have a turret on top. The front camera, and Genius 3.0 Home Intelligence tech, allow the iRobot Roomba j7+ to efficiently navigate your home and detect obstacles.

The iRobot Roomba j7+ is equipped with smart obstacle detection. It specializes in avoiding cables, the common enemy of robot vacuums. It is trained to detect and avoid cords, cables and pet waste. If it detects an obstacle, it will avoid it and send the image to the app so you can leave your feedback and label it as a permanent, or temporary, obstruction. The obstacle detection does not avoid all obstacles that are in the way, but with the help of your feedback in the app, it will help the robot vacuum improve and become more efficient in obstacle detection.

It is equipped with a smart navigation system where it can create a precise map that can be seen in the app. The app offers a variety of options and features, so you can control the robot vacuum according to your liking. The created map is highly customizable, and you can create virtual boundaries to areas that you don’t want the robot vacuum to go, name each room and divide the rooms to distinguish one room from another. You can also set a cleaning schedule so that it will automatically clean regularly. Within the app, you can also look for the cleaning history and check what obstacles it encountered.

The iRobot Roomba j7+ can also use your phone’s location to determine when to start and stop cleaning. When you are out, the robot vacuum can start cleaning, and if it detects that your phone’s location is in the house, it will stop cleaning. Therefore, you can go home to a clean house every time.

Overall, the iRobot Roomba j7+ has an impressive obstacle detection system that can efficiently avoid cords, cables and pet waste. It gives you peace of mind knowing that it won’t get stuck, and will avoid small objects that are scattered around your home.
